we believe in the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and you

we try not to get too political around here, mostly because we feel it does no good. what you believe is what you believe, we can't change that with political arguments. besides, the personal is political, and at the end of the day it's how you live your life that matters most. we believe in forgiveness, that taking care of ourselves inherently requires taking care of others, and in working together. in short we believe in the power of love. we say all this because some of you might not like what's coming next? but read on. we hope you, in turn, will forgive us.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she, with silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift…

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she, with silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" from "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus (1849–1887), written in homage to the Statue of Liberty

Bandcamp is an organization that helps musicians like us get the word out about our music. they are donating all their proceeds to the ACLU today in support of their efforts to fight the immigration ban currently in place in our country. we're going to join them in this, giving all our proceeds from our sales on Bandcamp today to the ACLU. our band would not exist without immigrants. just as our country would not exist. closer to home for us on this issue, Joe's people are Syrian. our government wants to keep out OUR family who needs help. if this does not speak to you, imagine if it were your own family?

but we're going just a little bit further as well. our EP man on a wire is a work that speaks towards the idea of the good, towards the idea of love itself. but it does so personally. we have no theme, we have no concept. that is for you to discover, just as these songs were discovered as we made our own errors, recovered from our own wars, and studied our own past transgressions. in the spirit of "our losses can be your gain", we believe it might inspire some good in this world? so to help manifest it we will send our art to you along with a download code. from now until Valentines Day, if you email or message us your address and a picture of a receipt with a $10 (or greater) donation to the ACLU or Planned Parenthood, we will send you a copy of man on a wire plus a download code. don't worry, postage is on us. and if you haven't seen it yet, you'll love the Miles Murray artwork.

we will not back away from our belief in love. we will not succumb to fear. we will not close our borders and our hearts to those who need help. we hope you stand with us with the spirit of these statements, even if you disagree with how we might act to support them. we do not all have to get along, or take the same steps towards growth. we just have to continue moving forward without stepping on or encumbering those around us. we can do this.

much love to you, friends. take care of each other.
